Tusk Blames Online Violence After Deadly Polish School Attacks

Poland is reeling after a week of unprecedented violence inside its schools. In a matter of days, multiple stabbings have left one woman dead and several others injured, including children. The sudden wave of bloodshed has shocked the nation and forced authorities to take emergency measures. According to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, these attacks were not planned by some large, underground organization. Instead, they were driven by a toxic online culture that glorifies violence.

Speaking on Sunday during an emergency meeting with security chiefs, Tusk described the attacks as acts of “nihilistic violence” tied to far-right extremism. He noted a worrying rise in people searching for Nazi content and idolizing mass murderers online. “These are very often spontaneous actions inspired by online activity,” Tusk told reporters. He warned that Poland, like many other nations, is facing a growing digital ecosystem that turns real-world violence into a form of dark entertainment.

A Week of Bloodshed in Polish Classrooms

The violent streak began on Wednesday in Mazovian, a central Polish province. A 19-year-old student entered a vocational school armed with a weapon. Before he could be stopped, he attacked and injured nine people, spreading panic through the hallways.

The very next day, a far deadlier incident occurred north of Warsaw. A 15-year-old walked into a primary school in the town of Leszczydół-Nowiny. During the confrontation, a 37-year-old female caretaker was killed, and two teachers were injured. The loss of the beloved school employee shattered the local community and raised urgent questions about school security.

By Saturday, police were dealing with a third incident. A woman was arrested in Warsaw after attacking a 17-year-old girl at an educational institution. Three people were injured during the chaotic assault.

Massive Police Crackdown and Threat of “Bloody Friday”

The back-to-back stabbings triggered widespread panic across Poland. Rumors quickly circulated on social media about a rumored “Bloody Friday” challenge, with students fearing coordinated school attacks. In response, thousands of police officers visited schools across the country to reassure students, parents, and staff.

The security crackdown was massive in scope. Officers searched tens of thousands of schools nationwide. By the end of the week, police had detained 117 people for possessing weapons like knives or for threatening to carry out attacks against fellow pupils or schools.

Among those detained was a 17-year-old in Sierpc, a town northwest of Warsaw. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński revealed that the teenager had openly declared on school property that he planned to do “something dangerous” and intended to harm someone.

Far-Right Ideology and Online Radicalization

Tusk made it clear that investigators do not believe these attacks are part of a centralized conspiracy. “We are not dealing with any group organized on a big scale,” Tusk said. Instead, the government is pointing fingers at spontaneous acts inspired by online rabbit holes.

The Polish leader noted that both globally and at home, there has been a noticeable surge in the fascination with extreme violence. Investigators found that some of those detained were active in ultraright-wing online groups. Furthermore, police have tracked a sharp rise in online searches for Nazi-related materials and content celebrating notorious mass murderers.

Assassination Threats Against Top Ministers

The school violence has coincided with an escalating security threat to Poland’s political leadership. During Sunday’s high-level crisis meeting, officials disclosed that security services had received intelligence regarding a potential plot to assassinate Prime Minister Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.

A spokesperson for Poland’s special services confirmed that the government is treating the threat as “deadly serious.” Armed security details have been increased as investigators work to identify the source of the assassination plot.
